Vinho Verde

$8.00

Sometimes a new design comes straight out of a previous favorite. Some of you may recognize the hem on Vinho Verde from last year's Dubbel Dark tee, and you'd be correct. The simple shape and great fit of that little top had me reaching for it again and again, but as the days got cold, I wanted a cozy version with sleeves.

The beauty of this design is the simple silhouette, paired with a bold hem. I love the fit of the abbreviated saddle shoulder and the modern feel of these wide sleeves. Soft yarn and a short turtleneck add exactly what I need for cool weather wear.

Of course, it's easy to modify the silhouette shown in a number of ways, so your Vinho Verde works best for you and your wardrobe.

I've included four different neckline options as well as notes on making sure your shoulders fit you as they should. You can easily work the lower body to any length you like, and if those wide sleeves are not for you, I've also noted how to skip the extra ease and shape them in a classic, more fitted shape. Notes on all of this are in the PDF.

Lace instructions are both charted and written out.

Vinho Verde is knit in the round, from the top down. Shaping begins with saddle shoulders, using short rows to lower the front neckline. Sleeves are increased at shoulder before yoke begins. Raglan yoke shaping is then continued along seams to underarm. Once yoke is complete, sleeves are put on hold and body is knit downwards to end. When body is complete, sleeves are picked back up and knit in the round to end.

Yarn: Green Mountain Spinnery Mountain Mohair (30% Yearling Mohair, 70% Wool, 140yds/128m per 2oz/57g skein), sample shown in Fern.

If substituting yarn, choose a fiber that knits to pattern gauge in a fabric that you like the drape and feel of. Swatch in both stockinette and lace to check gauge and to be sure the lace shows up in your yarn. This is an easy sweater in which to play with multiple strands if you like an extra halo or subtle heathered effect.

Gauge: 16 sts and 24 rnds/rows in 4”/10cm, in blocked fabric in stockinette and hem pattern. 20 sts and 24 rounds in 4”/10cm on smaller needle in rib at cuffs.

Needles: US#8/5mm needles, or size to get gauge. I recommend long circulars for body and preferred method for small circumferences on sleeves and turtleneck.

US#7/4.5mm needles for sleeve cuff, optional US#7/4.5mm needles for lace hem if needed.

Sizes:

38(41.5,45.5,48,51.5)(55.5,59.5,64)”/

96.5(105.5,115.5,122,130.75)(141,151.25,162.5)cm

Sizes are finished circumference around bust, based on final, blocked fabric. I suggest a size with 3-5”/7.5-12.75cm of positive ease, based on actual bust.

Yardage:

850(950,1050,1200,1250)(1350,1450,1500)yds

775,870,1005,1100,1145)(1235,1325,1370)m

A round worsted or Aran weight yarn is needed.
