Vesper with a Twist

Vesper with a Twist is a simple pullover with a not-as-simple cable. The gorgeous twists and turns in this motif are both geometric and delicate. The panel transitions beautifully from the hem and has gentle curves that make a stunning edge on each side.

To keep the focus on that panel, the rest of the sweater is incredibly simple. Stockinette stitch on sleeves and back and a deep, cozy cowl are just perfect and make for easy knitting.

This Merpaca yarn is a gorgeous Merino and Alpaca mix, and the subtle heather in the soft colors that Helene offers allow the cables to pop perfectly. It has a lovely drape and a round but delicate hand, so the sweater itself feels a little luxe, quite polished, and absolutely comfy against the skin.

Some details

The sweater body is knit upwards from hem to armholes in the round. The body is then separated into front/back at armholes, and pieces are worked flat to shoulders, Once shoulders are seamed, cowl is added and sleeve stitches are picked up and knit in the round to end.

Yarn: Happy-go-knitty Merpaca 8ply, 80% Merino, 20% Alpaca, (240yds/220m per 3.5oz/100g skein). Sample shown in Silver Fern.

If substituting, a soft wool in a light, lofty fiber would provide a similar drape and feel. A tweedy or rustic wool will result in a more rustic sweater. I do not suggest yarns with pronounced texture or variegation as they will compete with the cable pattern.

Gauge: 22 sts/32 rows(rnds) per 4"/10cm in stockinette on smaller needles, 27 sts/32 rows(rnds) per 4”/10cm in cable pattern on smaller needles, 20 sts/28 rnds per 4"/10cm in 2x2 rib on larger needles

Needles: US#6/4mm for body and sleeves. US#7/4.5mm for cowl only, and US#5/3.75mm for sleeve cuffs only.
