Blue Wave Mitts

$7.00

This skein of yarn was only supposed to be a test swatch of Karida’s new yarn, but once I started working with her Organic Studio Worsted, I couldn’t stop with just a small square…

Knit in a gorgeous and subtly shaded blue, these quick and easy mitts feature a long traveling cable that stands out nicely against the ribbed background. When worn, the cable opens up beautifully, allowing the detail and lines of the motif to shine.

Karida’s subtle color shifts are gorgeous for the simple, flowing lines - and if you needed an excuse to try a skein of the new Organic Studio Worsted, here it is! Just pick a color and I promise you won’t regret it.

Yarn: Neighborhood Fiber Co. Studio Worsted (100% merino wool; 400yds/366m per 8oz/228g skein) or Neighborhood Fiber Co. Studio Organic Worsted (100% organic merino wool; 200yds/183m per 4oz/113g skein). Sample shown in Studio Worsted, colorway Hollins Market.

If substituting yarn, I suggest a fiber with a degree of memory, so the fabric will retain some stretch and fit properly. A solid, semi-solid, heather, or subtle tweed will show the detail nicely. Superwash fiber is also a good idea for a knitted item like a mitt, which will be in contact with a lot of surfaces! Be sure to swatch so you know your yarn will show off the lines of the cable pattern well, and to double check gauge, as worsted weight yarns can vary in thickness.

Gauge: 24 stitches and 31 rows = 4 inches in cable pattern, and is based on final fabric.
