Yarn: The Farmers Daughter Fibers Recollect Worsted (100% Black and White Mountain Merino, 210yds/ 192m per 3.5oz/100g skein), 1 skein needed for all versions. Pom/Deep Rib version shown in Bonsai.
Pom/Short Rib and Folded Brim versions knit in discontinued Shalimar Yarns Equus, a 100% SW merino yarn. Pom/Short Rib version shown in Toast Points, Folded Brim version shown in Wisteria.
If substituting yarn, I suggest a round fiber with a bit of memory, in a solid or semi solid shade. A solid, tweed, heather or a subtly variegated colorway will allow the texture of the cables to show. Be sure to swatch your yarn in the cable motif to be sure you are getting desired gauge and to see how the cables look in the chosen color.
Gauge: About 23sts/28rounds per 4”/10cm in both cable pattern on larger needle and in ribbing on smaller needle.
Needles: US#6/4mm and US#7/4.5mm 16”/40.5cm circular needles or size to get gauge. DPNs in larger size only, for working crown.
Sizes:
18.25(21)”/46.25(53.25)cm circumference around head, when laid flat. This hat stretches when worn to fit up to a 20(23)”/50.75(58.5)cm head.
Pom/Deep Rib version is 8.75”/22.25cm from cast on edge to center crown.
Pom/Short Rib is 9.25”/23.5cm to center crown.
Folded Brim is 9.75”/24.75cm unfolded, and fits snugly on the head when brim is folded back at about 2”/5cm.
Yardage:
1 skein needed for all versions (approx 210yds/192m).
