Plum Wine

$8.00

This sweater is a classic cardigan with interesting lines at the shoulder and a beautifully delicate cable pattern on the body.

It’s accented by bolder slipped stitches along the fronts, and the patterned body of the sweater is set off by simple stockinette sleeves and shoulders. These distinct, tailored shoulders show up beautifully in the heathered yarn, and the switch to stockinette makes knitting the shaping portion nice and easy!

Sweater is knit from the bottom up and separated at underarms. You seam the shoulders together, and sleeves are picked up and worked down from underarm, with short row cap shaping. The buttton band is knit last. Cables are both written and charted.

This is a versatile layering piece that can be worn year round, due to the classic silhouette and the light weight and feel of this gorgeous 100% organic Thirteen Mile wool from Montana. The subtle shades in the natural and the plant-dyed colors of the yarn are stunning and the simple elements of this cardigan allow the fiber to really stand out.

Instructions for making a short or long version are included in the pattern, and as always, notes for modifications are in there as well!

Yarn: Thirteen Mile Yarns Plant Dyed Worsted (100% Organic Wool; 245 yds/224m per 100g skein).

If substituting yarn, I suggest a wool yarn in a subtle tweed or heather. The pattern and detail will be lost in a heavily variegated yarn. Since this is a long cardigan with cables, know that a heavy or drapey yarn may grow over time – and anything with elasticity might pull in over the ribbing/cables to create a more fitted silhouette. Something lofty and light is a good choice.

Gauge: 24sts/28 rows in 2x2 ribbing, 26sts/28 rows in cable motif, and 20sts/28rows in stockinette in 4”/10cm

Needles: US#6/4mm

Sizes:

32(35.5,38.75,42,44.5)(48.75,52,55,59.75)”

81.5(89.5,98.5,106.5,115.5)(124,132.5,141,150)cm

For fit shown, I suggest 3-4”/7.5-10cm of positive ease.

Yardage:

1350(1450,1550,1650,1750)(1850,1950,2050,2150) yds

1234(1325,1417,1508,1600) (1691,1783,1874,1965)m

Shorter length uses about 150-250 yds/137-228m less.
