Painkiller Tee
The beautiful thing about knitting is that I can create the thing I want to own.
All summer long, I reach for my square neck tank tops, and constantly wear my Bijou Tee backwards for the same effect - but I didn't have a proper square neck knit.
Now I do! And I love this soooo much.
I paired the horizontal neckline with a textural lace in vertical columns, so each balances the other nicely. Both the hem and sleeve edgings are worked in a pattern that plays off the lace columns, and the delicate ribbed collar is shaped with crisp corners to emphasize that perfect, square neckline.
The drama on this one is in the motif, and the detail here shows up beautifully in this neutral cream shade. Stacks of eyelet lace are accented with small cables on either side, placed perfectly so the lines of the cable crosses play right off the lines of the lace.
As always, I've written the pattern with notes and hints to make sure your neckline fits well and sits properly across your upper chest. Stockinette side panels allow for alterations for size, body length can be worked as desired, and there are thoughts on how to work this as a vest or with long sleeves if preferred. See the test knits for both a vest and a longer sleeved sample!
Lace instructions are both charted and written out.
Yarn: Fiber MacGyver Shaniko Sport (100% Shaniko wool), 312yds/285m per 100g/3.5oz skein. Sample knit in Dune.
If substituting yarn, I suggest a round, lightweight yarn that knits to gauge. A solid or subtle semi-solid shade allows the detail to stand out. I do not suggest yarns with texture or color variegation, nor do I suggest a heavy fiber or one without much memory, as it may affect your neckline shape. Be sure to swatch and block swatches before casting on.
Gauge: 22 sts and 32 rows/rounds in stockinette, lace, and hem ribbing on larger needle. Gauge is calculated per 4”/10cm and based on final, blocked fabric. Adjust needle size(s) if needed. Stitch gauge is more important than row gauge in this pattern.
Needles: US#6/4mm and US#4/3.5mm
Sizes:
37(41,45,49,53)(57,61,65,69)”
94(104.25,114.25,124.5,134.5)(144.75,155,165,175.25)cm
For fit shown, I suggest 4”/10cm of positive ease.
Yardage:
900(950,1000,1100,1200)(1250,1350,1500,1650)yds
825(870,915,1005,1100)(1145,1235,1370,1510)m
Sport or DK weight yarn
