A bit of texture, a gorgeous yarn, and delicate details elevate the Oloroso tee just enough for me. She feels simple, but not basic.

I was hooked the moment I started swatching these adorable little squares, and as soon as I added my Maven yarn to the mix, I immediately started making outfits in my head. Loose linen pants? Check. Denim cutoffs? Yep. My white cotton skirt? Absolutely! This Heartwood shade is that perfect brown-gray that defies description but matches everything.

The alternating square motif that I chose for Oloroso is simple and graphic - but when knit at this gauge, it also feels delicate and subtle - and it's really fun to work!

The tee has an easy-wearing body, paired with a more fitted shoulder and cap sleeve. The V-neck is defined with a crisp edge all around before it's finished with a narrow ribbing. The sleeves are subtly shaped, and I used the garter stitch lines in the motif to ensure that all the transitions are neat and intentional. My sweater is a little cropped on me (and more so on my tall friend Gabriella), but it can easily be worn longer, as seen in a few of the test knits.

It's worked from the bottom up in the round, from the hem to armhole, then split into pieces that are worked flat to shoulder and seamed together. Two small strips are sewn down from shoulders to back neck to finish off the neckline before the collar and sleeve stitches are picked up and worked in the round to end.

As always, notes are included in the pattern on how and where you can modify your Oloroso for a personal fit.

Motif instructions are both charted and written out.

Yarn: Ritual Dyes Maven (100% Rambouillet, 2-ply fingering wool; 265yds/242m per 1.76oz/50g skein). Color shown is Heartwood.

If substituting yarn, swatch in pattern to check gauge, familiarize yourself with the motif, and to make sure the pattern shows up well in your yarn. Maven is a light, bouncy wool without too much drape or weight. I do not suggest a yarn with pronounced color shifts or variegation as the pattern detail would be lost. If using a yarn with a high cotton or linen content, you may want to adjust needle size to counteract growth over time, especially along neckline ribbing.

Gauge: 24 sts and 36 rnds/rows per 4”/10cm in pattern. 24 sts and 32 rnds/rows in 1x1 rib and stockinette. Gauges are based on final, blocked fabric.

Needles: US#6/4mm needle, or size needed for gauge. I suggest long circulars for the body and shorter circulars to complete collar and sleeves.

Sizes:

34(38,42,46,50)(54,58,62,66)"

86.25(96.5,106.75,116.75,127)(137.25,147.25,157.5,167.75)cm

Sizes are based on circumference at bust, in final, blocked fabric. Shown worn with about 4"/10cm positive ease.

Yardage:

950(1050,1150,1250,1300)(1400,1500,1550,1600)yds

870(960,1050,1145,1190) (1280,1370,1415,1465)m

Estimates include about 10% extra, based on test knit feedback.
