Con Arancia

$7.00

Use the code ARANCIA for 15% off the pattern, and once you get your PDF, page 2 includes a discount code for 15% off this beautiful Serene DK yarn on the new Camellia Fiber Co website!

Both codes are valid until 10/17/26, since some of you may want to squish your Serene DK in person at A Woolen Affair in Kingston, NY next weekend.

Con Arancia is all about bold lines and texture, designed to really pop in this gorgeous shade of Poppy from Camellia Fiber Co. I wanted a combination of pattern and squish for this hat, as the Serene DK has both stitch defintion and memory for days...

I chose a folded brim, and designed the ribbing to flow directly into the body of the hat. My overall motif features nested diamonds with a bit of garter stitch for contrast, and big, ribbed cables that can open up when worn with a little negative case.

As always, the pattern is both charted and written out, and notes are included in the PDF on making alterations for size if desired.

Perfect for gifting in a few months.....

Yarn: Camellia Fiber Co. Serene Merino DK (100% Merino wool, (218yds/200m per 3.5oz/100g skein). Shown in Red Poppy.

If substituting yarn, use a round DK-weight yarn in a solid, semi-solid, heather, or tweed colorway so the detail of the cables will show up. I love this hat in a soft merino wool, since the roundness of the strand, the stitch definition, and the memory of the fiber work perfectly to highlight the qualities of this motif.

Gauge: 28.5 sts/32 rounds per 4”/10cm in pattern on larger needles, laid flat. Each 19 st/8-round pattern repeat is just over 2.5”/6.5cm wide and 1”/2.5cm deep. Gauge based on final, blocked fabric, laid flat.

Needles: US#4/3.5mm needles for brim, US#5/3.75mm needles for body of hat. DPNs in larger size for crown. If substituting yarn, use needle size required to get gauge.

Sizes: 16(18.5,21.25)”/40.75(47,54)cm circumference in final fabric, laid flat.

I suggest a size with 1-2”/2.5-5cm of negative ease, so pattern can stretch around head.

8(8.5,8.5)”/20.25(21.5,21.5)cm deep from cast on to center crown once brim is hemmed, 9.5(10.5,10.5)” 24.75(26.75,26.75)cm deep before finishing.

Yardage:

195(215,245)yds/180(195,235)m DK weight yarn needed.

Yardage may vary with substitute yarns.
