Claret

$8.00

Claret features bold diagonal lines, emphasizing a deep v-neck at center. The motif is actually quite simple, mixing 1/1 and 2/2 cables. Detail from the center cable finishes off the collar, and the back is worked in a simpler version of the cable combination, for a bit of contrast. Hem and cuffs are dramatically designed to play off the body, and it’s all worked in a deep garnet yarn from Green Mountain Spinnery that allows the detail to pop beautifully.

Sweater is worked from the bottom up in pieces and seamed.

All cables are both charted and written.

Yarn: Green Mountain Spinnery Mountain Mohair (70% wool, 30% yearling mohair; 140yds/128m per 2oz/50g skein). Sample shown in Claret.

If you are substituting yarn, another farm yarn would do nicely, as would a solid, a tweed or semisolid worsted weight yarn. Think subtle.  A soft, round fiber will work best in the cables, as the texture is what really stands out here.  Note that a fiber with more drape or weight may grow over time.

Gauge: 20 sts/28 rows per 4”/10cm in stockinette and cable pattern
