Catskill Merinos is soft and round, and just a bit rustic. To allow the character of the yarn to stand out, I chose strong lines in a simple ribbing, paired with an alternating lace motif that plays off the proportions of the ribs. The cowl is worked in ribbing for one third of the length, and then in lace for the remaining two thirds so you get a bit of contrast between the textures when worn either long or wrapped.

It’s a quick and satisfying knit, easily modified for length, width, or another weight of her yarn you might just fall in love with…

Yarn: Catskill Merino Saxon Merino Worsted, (100% Saxon Merino Wool, 140yds/128m per 2.01oz/57g skein).

If substituting yarn, I recommend a soft, round fiber, and I especially recommend a local farm yarn if you are lucky enough to find one – a Merino or Cormo would be perfect. A yarn with a little body is good, as something too drapey will just fall in on itself in ribbing. It’s nice if your fiber can “stand” a little.

Gauge: 4.5sts/6.5rows = 4”/10cm in lace and ribbing

Needles: US 8/5.0mm

Size/Circumference:

Width:10"/25.5cm

Length: 54"/137cm

Yardage:

420yds/384m
