Boddingtons

$8.00

Boddingtons is a sweet little vest with a decidedly collegiate vibe. The cable motif on this one features a series of rope cables, offset from one another to highlight the thick and thin nature of each twist. I love the symmetry within each rope, and how that is almost challenged when they are placed in this manner.

The panels are centered on front and back of the vest, and I used one more set of cables to transition from cable detail to stockinette body. This detail reinforces the round, soft feel of the design perfectly.

For a silhouette, I kept the body somewhat short and worked the hem on a smaller needle size for a little negative ease at the waist. A higher crew neck and simple ribbing at armhole and collar keep the focus on the cables and the variegation in the yarn.

One of the things I love the most about this business is collaborating with friends around the globe! It's been a couple of years since I've had a design with UK-based Eden Cottage Yarns, and this Pendle DK is just as gorgeous as I remember!

This lightly variegated cream shade is Stone. It's got a subtle sheen to it, with highlights of soft sand and latte shades in there. The fiber is a superwash merino, so it's soft and bouncy and lovely on the needles!

Due tariffs, US customers may not be able to get the Pendle DK, so Magpie Fibers Quartet Worsted is a great sub—and another yarn company I absolutely love to support.

Boddingtons is knit in the round from the bottom up, and separated into front and back pieces at armholes. These pieces are worked flat to shoulders and seamed before the ribbings are worked around openings in the round. Shoulders are shaped with short rows and lots of notes are included in the pattern on how and where to customize this design for a more personal fit. Cables are both charted and written out.

Yarn: Eden Cottage Yarn Pendle DK (100% SW Merino wool, 218yds/199m per 3.5oz/100g). Shown in the Stone colorway. Magpie Fibers Quartet Worsted (100% SW Merino wool, 210yds/192m per 3.5oz/ 100g) if you are unable to get the Pendle DK.

You need a light worsted/heavy DK yarn that works to gauge, in a subtly shaded or solid color. The squish and bounce of a SW merino is perfect here. Please note that quantity and final measurements may vary with other substitute yarns and/or modifications to pattern.

Gauge: 20 sts and 28 rnds/rows per 4”/10cm in stockinette on larger needle, 22 sts and 28 rnds in rib on smaller needle.

Needles: US#7/4.5mm and US#6/4mm needles, or size to get gauge. Larger needles for body. Smaller needles for hem, armholes and collar. I suggest long circulars for body and preferred method for smaller circumferences at collar and armhole.
