Asti Spumante Hat

$7.00

The Asti Spumante Hat combines colors and cables in a fun new way I haven't seen done before. The combination of twisted cables and stripes makes for a gorgeous, textured fabric and the hat is a quick and addictive project that's just perfect for trying something new.

(In fact, so addictive that I went on to design the Asti Spumante Tee after I finished this sample...)

The hat begins in a solid dark green, worked first in a deep ribbing and then in an allover twisted stitch pattern. Once the hat is begun, I started adding color, tucking it into each cable in neat little stripes. As always, I transition from brim to hat in a way that sets up the first few rows of the pattern distinctly. The stripes are then centered on the body of the hat, and the crown is worked so it remains extra squishy and looks great either with or without a pom.

Stripes are worked in Dream State by Spincycle Yarns, which allows for beautifully subtle color changes from diamond to diamond and stripe to stripe, adding depth of color and interest to each stripe against the deep green background.

Notes are included in the pattern for modifying the fit of the hat, as well as for working your stripes in a number of different ways.
