Yarns: (Two samples knit in different yarns; choose one worsted weight yarn)
Sawkill Farm 3ply Worsted (50% Sawkill Farm wool, 50% domestic Merino; 200yds/183m per 3.5oz/100g skein), shown in Rhode Island Red.
Hudson + West Forge (70% US Merino, 30% US Corriedale; 235yds/215m per 3.5oz/100g skein), shown in Red Feather.
If substituting yarn, a worsted weight wool with some memory in a solid, semi-solid, heather, or tweed will work best. Swatch in both ribbing and cable pattern to ensure that you are getting gauge and that you like the fabric your yarn creates. Memory in your fabric is important for a good fit and a long-wearing hat. Don’t knit a hat at a loose gauge or in a fabric with too much drape.
